Team Structure

How teams are structured is a key part of Lean improvement. One key element of Lean is that the majority of small, incremental, Kaizen improvements are driven from the operational teams themselves. This requires a high level of authority and capability in the first line supervisor's role.

For supervisors to be able to bring both control and improvement to their section they need TAKE:

  • Time - having time to analyse and improve their operations
  • Authority - able to make and implement decisions
  • Knowledge - deep understanding of their section, operations and people
  • Encouragement - from their performance targets and leaders
